First opened in 1923 it was originally called Boston Airport and was used primarily by the Massachusetts Air Guard and the Army Air Corps. Later in 1927 the first commercial flights began between Boston and New York City. In 1956 the name was changed to the General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport. Over the years the airport has expanded to include four terminal buildings, six runways and employ approximately 12,000 people. One of the major airports in the United States it is ranked 12th as far as international traffic and 20th in passenger volume serving over 26 million passengers a year.
